WordPress Backups & Updates
I encourage all my clients to keep up with software updates for their WordPress sites. Websites do get hacked and keeping your site up to date is one of the most important ways to keep it secure. It also assures that you have the latest features offered by you theme, plugins and from WordPress.
Most of the time you will update your site and all will be fine, but on rare occasions a glitch will occur because an updated plugin or theme does not play nicely with the rest of the site software. To prepare for this possibility it is highly advisable that you create a backup of your site before making the updates. For that reason this video also shows how you can make a site backup with the free UpdraftPlus plugin.
You do not need to make updates every time one becomes available and you may want put of doing updates if it is a time when you are expecting a lot of traffic and your website just has to be perfect. I would recommend checking every month, creating a backup, making all available updates and then thoroughly checking your site for any problems. This is also a great time to test your contact form since it is one of the most important parts of your site.
